2007 Re-Union - Stratford-upon-Avon

The Falcon Hotel in the centre of the lovely old town of Stratford-upon-Avon has been selected for our next reunion on 13th to 15th April 2007. This 16th Century inn is both modern and comfortable and is perfectly situated close to Shakespeare’s birthplace as well as only a very short walk into the Town’s shopping centre.

The salient points are:

The re-union dinner on Saturday 14th April will be in private and you will choose your meal from the menu of the day. 50th Anniversary of Induction (Australia)

You will all be aware that the Planning Team are incorporating a trip to the Southern Hemisphere, Australia, in 2010. This venture represents a colossal undertaking and we know it will not appeal to everyone.

After considerable detailed discussion the Planning Team came to the conclusion that it would be near impossible to arrange/organise a Group Tour. Therefore, nearer the time a mock invitation will be sent out requiring an essential RSVP so that organisers will know attendance figures. You will then be required to make your own travel arrangements to be at a given place on a given day.

More useful data will be provided after the Stratford reunion. WATCH THIS SPACE.

The New 95th Entry Web Site

I had to abandon the web site hosted by Freeserve/Wanadoo.  I have put a brief explanation on the new site.  I have purchased our own domain name and rent a 50 MB site for our web site.  Our site is now

http://www.95thhalton.com/.

On a related topic, PLEASE send me your latest email address (even if you think I have it).  I will send jokes periodically to all the entry emails I have, and will get a rejection should the email account be closed.  This is probably the only time we get a warning that someone may have moved on.

Mike Frankling R.I.P

It is with regret that we must record the passing of Mike Frankling (686378).

On Wednesday 12 April I received a letter from Mike’s daughter, Fiona (she having discovered a past newsletter amongst Mike’s papers) advising me that Mike had died, aged 62, of a heart attack on 20th March 2006, whilst cycling home from a quiet evening at his local.

Mike retired from the RAF in 1990 as a Squadron Leader and then took a post as Senior Lecturer in the Air Systems branch at the Arborfield Army Base.

He leaves two daughters, Fiona & Phillippa who has a son, James. Mike’s name will be added to our In-Memoriam list and, together with the others, he will be remembered.

News from the Antipodes

Hi all,

I just thought I would take the opportunity to contact everybody, to add my voice to those who are considering the idea of a 50th anniversary of joining to be held in Sydney. The idea has been bandied around for a couple of years now and, depending on the numbers, will take quite a bit of organising. The ideal scenario would be to billet the first ones to commit and I can accommodate a few here and hope that Jan & Chris Michalak can do the same. Then it really depends on numbers as to what type of venue we book for the event. Small numbers might mean a restaurant whilst a larger group would mean a larger venue and as these type of places tend to be booked well in advance for weddings and the like, the earlier we know the approximate numbers the better so please have a think about it in the next year as time seems to go by so fast at this end of life and by the end of January it is almost Christmas again.

Denise and I will be in the UK in August/September. The main reason is to attend the Commonwealth Fencing Championships, which are being held in Belfast from Wednesday 20th September to Monday 25th September. We will be in London from around the middle of August, in Southern Ireland for a week or so on the way to Belfast and will then fly to Turin for World Champs after Belfast. I imagine Paddy McCrum might be around that part of the world somewhere and I will definitely be taking a day or two out firstly to revisit Ballykelly and Derry and secondly to visit Dungannon, where my grandfather has one of his carvings in St Partick's church, so I will be flexible as to where I want to go during that time.

Should any of the Entry ever be touring here and want a bed in Sydney there will always be one here regardless of trade or creed. Any of you would be most welcome.

Kindest regards, Tony & Denise Dapre.

50th Anniversary of Graduation (Perhaps York?)(Swan Song)

Our Golden Graduation Anniversary falls in 2013. The 95th Entry will celebrate this occasion in the customary fashion in a smart venue – possibly in York, where there is plentiful variety of accommodations and loads to see and do. We might even go for a mid-week event just to be different but, as the 70’s (ours) will be just round the corner, it might likely be our group Swan Song.

To early to think about? Maybe, but any ideas, opinions or (clean) suggestions (or not so clean, either, come to that!) are welcome.

RAFHAAA

Triennial Halton Apprentice re-unions occur every three years (I’ll bet you didn’t know that!). The next one will be held on 22nd September 2007.

If you joined the RAF Halton Aircraft Apprentices Association (RAFHAAA) you will automatically receive information hot off the press, so to speak.

Full details of the RAFHAAA, with joining information, can be obtained from:
